True Success: the john wooden's way

The urban dictionary defined success as
At age 4 success is not peeing in your pants.
At age 12 success is having friends.
At age 16 success is having a drivers license.
At age 20 success is having sex.
At age 35 success is having money.
At age 50 success is having money.
At age 60 success is having sex.
At age 70 success is having a drivers license.
At age 75 success is having friends.
At age 80 success is not peeing in your pants

Funny huh? This definition is not completely correct beacuse it considered success as favorable ends. What if at age 4, you still peed in your pants? And at age 35, you still don't have have money? Does that mean you are not successful?

One other definition answers this question. And that's coach john wooden's definition of success which is "Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming."

This definition was influenced by a verse of poetry he had read which says
At God's footstool to confess,
A poor soul knelt and bowed his head.
"I failed," he cried. The Master said,
"Thou didst thy best, that is success."

This definition shows us that success is actually in the journey not the end. Doing your best in what ever thing you do whethere it comes out good or not is success.

John wooden went further to explain
"If you will work hard… love what you do… be friendly, loyal and cooperative… maintain your self-control… be alert… take initiative… be intent on achieving your goals… stay conditioned (mentally, morally and physically)… develop your skills to execute both quickly and properly… exhibit team spirit which starts with consideration for others… display poise by just being yourself… then you will have the confidence that comes through intense preparation and maximum effort. From all this you will become a great competitor that enjoys the difficult challenge and is able to give their best, when their best is needed. Blend in a proper amount of patience and faith and you have found the formula for "true success".#
