Chimamanda Adichie on track to replace Chinua Achebe

Nigeria may not have to wait for someone to fill the shoes of the late literally Gaint Prof. Chinua Achebe who passed away earlier this year. This is because right from the late novelist's home state of Anambra in South eastern Nigeria, another gifted writer is making waves around the literary world. Her name is Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s latest novel AMERICANAH which is her third novel was Number 1 on BBC list of Top Ten books of 2013. AMERICANAH was also named as one of the Top Ten Best Books of 2013 by the New York Times.

The New York Times' list of the ten best books is usually chosen by a team of editors at the New York Times, which is regarded as the most prestigious Newspaper in the world. The list of the ten best books which is selected from a pool of thousands of books published in each year, is eagerly awaited by the literary world and the wider public.

AMERICANAH was published in Nigeria by FARAFINA, was described as a “tender and trenchant” novel that “takes on the comedy and tragedy of American race relations” by New York Times.

New York Times described the Author, Chimamanda Adichie as ‘fearless,’ noting that AMERICANAH proves that “there’s nothing too humble or daunting for this fearless writer, who is so attuned to the various worlds and shifting selves we inhabit — in life and online, in love, as agents and victims of history and the heroes of our own stories.”

The BBC on the other hand has this to say about chimamanda Adichie and her novel AMERICANAH: “Chimamanda Adichie is supremely smart. With Americanah…she proves she is also supremely funny.”

AMERICANAH also featured in many other ‘best of 2013' lists including the the Guardian (UK) and Seattle Times. It was also chosen as the ‘best book of the year’ by iBooks, Apple's electronic publishing outlet.

Chimamanda Adichie has previously authored two novels; Purple Hibiscus and Half of a Yellow Sun. Her Novel, Half of a Yellow Sun, won a lot of prestigious prizes and awards from around the world and was recently acted as a movie which has continued to wow movie audiences in cinemas from Toronto to London
