On thursday, the 12th of December, 2013, the indigenes of Karara community witnessed one of the many dividends of the long-standing National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme. The dividends came in form of personal community development service projects of a corps member, Onuchukwu Stanislaus Toochukwu, KG/13A/0442, serving in Kogi State. They featured: Donation of 53 treated mosquito nets to pregnant women/nursing mothers in Karara Community; and Free medical test and counseling on HIV/AIDS for indigenes of Karara Community, Lokoja, Kogi State.

The representative of the State Coordinator, NYSC Kogi State, Mr. Felix Ajayi, commissioned the projects. He said that he was greatly impressed by the impact and large turn-out of agencies, ministries and the entire Karara community. He commended the initiator of the projects, Toochukwu, for being able to mobilise resources to execute the projects. In her speech, the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, represented by Mrs. Roseline O. Alabi applauded the brilliant ideas of corps member, Toochukwu, describing him as a passionate and vision-oriented young man who has taken a leap of faith in his quest for touching the lives of Kogi people positively.

Also present was the representative of the Hon. Commissioner for Health,Hajiya Mariam O. Muhammed. In her address, she commended the laudable efforts of the corps member, saying that his projects were in line with the goals of the state government. She added that the ministry is delighted to having partnered with him in his vision to seeing a malaria and HIV/AIDS free Kogi State. The representative of the Local Government Chairman, Mr. Bochi M. Umar, also commended the efforts of the corps member, Toochukwu. The Executive Director, Community Life Advancement Project, in his lecture thanked the organiser for partnering with his agency in the fight against the HIV/AIDS.

The Community Leader of Karara, Alhaji Ibrahim Kaura, who graced the occasion with his entourage thanked the corps member for executing the projects in the community adding that the incessant cases of malaria will be reduced and checked adequately. The project initiator, Onuchukwu Stanislaus Toochukwu, thanked all for honouring his invitation. He added that he was moved to execute the projects because of his desire to contribute his quota in the fight against malaria and HIV/AIDS.
